Do You Love Your Dogs? Read This (Dogs+Hot Weather)

Hey everyone! Today I am going to be doing something a bit different. Today I am going to be talking about dogs in the heat. This is really important to know so please please read this and apply it to your pet. Also follow me if you aren’t already!

PS I am not an expert, these are just things I have learned by having a pet.

So now that it is summer, the temperatures are rising. It is important to know how much heat your dog can handle. The first thing to think of is, if you wouldn’t be comfortable doing what they are doing in a winter coat, then they shouldn’t be doing it. So if you wouldn’t run in a winter coat then your dog shouldn’t run. Even just sitting in the sun can be dangerous if it is hot enough. If dogs temperature rises by just 1 or 2 degrees it can be deadly, so you want to be really careful!

There are lots of things you can do to help your dog stay cool and safe in the summer heat. I will give you guys some ideas in the paragraphs down below.

First make sure your dog has some shade in your yard if they are going to be outside. That way they can choose to go in the shade if they get hot. Also make sure that they ALWAYS have access to fresh drinking water.

There are also some dog sunscreen on the market, so this could be a good idea if your going to a lake or somewhere where your dog could get a burnt nose.

If your dog wants to go outside and play something thats fun for them is to play with the hose or with a sprinkler. Then they can have fun and stay cool. Make sure the water is cold though so it is actually cooling them down. Be sure not to spray them down the throat directly because that can be dangerous.

To cool your dogs down you can use ice cubes. This may seem super simple, but it works if your dogs enjoy them. 2 of my 3 dogs love ice cubes and the other can not be tricked. Giving your dogs ice cubes as treats helps them stay hydrated and cool during the summer.

If your dogs aren’t tricked by ice cubes or you want to treat them a bit more some pooch gelato is perfect. I made some the other day that you can see in the picture. All I did was blend a banana and some frozen blueberries together. Then sprinkle blueberries and dog treats on top and put in the freezer. My dogs really enjoyed it and it helped cool them down.

You can get a kiddie pool for pretty cheap to keep your pooch cool. Just fill it up and you can also put some ice cubes in it so they can try to catch them. I think this is a really good idea, just make sure to monitor you dog so they don’t drown or get hurt.

If your dog has a thick coat, give them a hair cut if it is suitable for their hair type. One of my dogs has super thick fur and she always is much cooler when we give her a shave. We use some sheep shears to give her a hair cut.

Those are some ideas to help keep your dog safe, cool, and happy during the summer. Please be so careful with your pets during this time. Please like and comment if you enjoyed this post!   -Briana
