The first thing that really helps me destress and calm down is writing. Writing everything down in a journal is probably my best recommendation. Keeping a journal that you write in at least once every week can really help your mental health. If you don’t like writing in journals just try creative writing. There are a lot of writing prompts on Pinterest that are fun to do. Another thing that has the same affect as writing is talking, so if you aren’t into writing talk to someone.
I know that when you are feeling stressed or anxious that you probably feel exhausted, I understand, but doing simple exercise can make you feel better. If you are feeling tired things like yoga, meditation, deep breathing and just an outdoor walk are great. If you aren’t feeling tired doing a short workout is great as well. I like to use the 7M Workout app.
What you eat will DRASTICALLY affect how you feel. First, make sure you aren’t eating a bunch of junk food and make sure that you are getting enough fruits and vegetables. I like to have smoothies or acai bowls in order to get enough fruit and vegetables. Also cut out sugar and you will totally notice a difference, not just in the way you feel but your skin and a bunch of other things.
Take a Break
Sometimes you just need a break. Find out what is causing you the stress and take a brief break from it if you are able to. Do something small like reading or something large like having a whole vacation. Whatever you do, just take some time to relax and do what makes you feel calm.
Step Away From Your Phone
Next, take a break from your phone. You may not realize it but it also causes stress and anxiety. You will feel really good when you just take a break from it. Don’t carry it around as much, put it on airplane mode and put it away an hour before you go to bed or after you wake up. Not only step away from your phone, but spend more time reading or talking to friends or family.

- Get enough sleep
- Light a candle
- Listen to music
- Don’t worry
- Drink un-caffinated tea
- Snuggle with someone or a pet
- Don’t procrastinate
- Use a diffuser
- Write a to do list
- Keep your space clean
- Smile at yourself in the mirror
- Chew gum
- Listen to Don’t Worry Be Happy
