Hey everyone 🙂 Long time no post… sorry about that, life has been hectic. A couple days ago I went to the beautiful Westport, WA. Despite it being winter, it was still a super fun and beautiful trip. For those of you who may consider visiting I decided to write this post to tell you a bit more about it and share some pictures.
Westport is definitely a small town that has a lot of character, but that isn’t to say it is not a very nice destination for a day trip. Westport, being in Washington, can be chilly depending on the time you go there. Even in the spring, it isn’t too cold to spend some time there. Unlike some beaches, Westport is actually pretty sunny.
My family always likes to drive the 10 miles from Westport to Grayland. Grayland has a beach where you can drive your car along it. This is helpful if you have pets or too much stuff to carry.
It also is a really clean beach. There isn’t trash all over and people there normally keep to themselves. As you can see, our dogs had tons of fun splashing in the water and racing through the sand. This is a great beach to bring your dogs to. The only thing is that you have to be watching for cars since they can drive through.
We went in early March and it was actually pretty warm. It also wasn’t super windy which is nice. The water is really cold though, so if you really want to swim, this probably isn’t the beach to do so. Splashing around in the water is pretty fun though, especially with happy dogs.
If you don’t know, surfing in Washington is a thing! AND I’ve done it! Westport is actually a really great place to surf. There are a couple surf shops in Westport and a surf school. As long as you wear a wetsuit you will be perfectly fine.
I took a lesson through Big Foot surf school and it was pretty fun. I learned a good amount about surfing and safety. Lessons are pretty expensive, running over $100 for 2 hours, but after a couple lessons you would know enough to go out on your own. We actually took lessons in a state park in Westport but there are multiple places that you can surf.
If you don’t really want to surf but just watch surfers there is an amazing spot to do so close to the town. At the end of town you will see a wall of rocks. After a quick climb you have an amazing view of a popular surf spot in Westport.
Sitting on the warm rocks and watching the surfers was one of my favorite parts of my Westport trip. Just remember that normally people don’t surf during the winter or early spring, so maybe save this part for the summer or late spring.
Westport is a small town but it has a couple great things to do. There are obviously a couple great sea food restaurants on the main road. I didn’t get any pictures of the food, but it is great! The only thing is that it can be expensive. My family likes to pack some snacks or some lunch and save some money.
Now, I do have to say, if you want to shop until you drop on cute beach merch and stuff this isn’t the town for you. However, there are a few cute stores that are fun to look around in. One store carries the brand Pura Vida and has lots of cute things. There are also some candy stores with cute toys and treats.
Something else fun about Westport is that the docks are right across the street from the stores and restaurants. You can stroll along a little sidewalk that walks by the boats, or you can go down on the docks and explore a bit. If you are really into sea food you can actually buy freshly caught sea food right off of the boats. If you are more into nature you might spot a seal swimming in the water right by you.
Overall, Westport is a really chill and relaxing beach town. I always love to spend some time there, winter or summer. Bring your family, pets, friends, or just yourself and explore around Westport. Thanks for reading and leave me a comment letting me know if you have been to Westport or if you would like to go sometime! 🙂
Also, here is a cute pic of my corgi enjoying the beach and sunshine 🙂
