I know that starting to read the Bible can be so intimidating but I am here to hopefully make it less scary for you. Today I’ll be talking about how you can start reading your Bible, where to start, what Bible I have, what method to use, etc.

Reading the Bible is definitely one of the best ways to build your relationship with God. You learn so much about his kingdom, what he calls us to do, his own life, etc. If you are struggling with anything, always turn to the Bible and prayer!

What Bible do I use?

There are lots of different versions of the Bible and it can totally get confusing to figure out which one to get. I would be lying if I said that I knew every version and which was the best but I will tell you guys which ones I love and use. I use either NIV (New International Version) and ESV (English Standard Version). Both versions are easy to understand.

Next, I would highly recommend getting a journaling Bible! These Bibles have space on the side for you to take notes or draw. Personally, I like to make my Bible cute as well as functional. It’s handy to be able to take notes directly in your Bible as well. The Bible that I currently use is this one from Amazon. It is one of the cheaper journaling Bibles and is ESV.

Where should I start reading?

The Bible is full of wisdom, so where should you actually start reading? I recommend that you start by reading Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. These are great because they will help you get to know Jesus and his life which is super important. After that, Proverbs or Psalms is packed with so much good information. They have amazing verses and advice for you to use in your everyday life.

At the moment I am reading through the entire Bible. I don’t really recommend that you start by doing this, but you totally can if you want to. In my opinion, it is helpful to get an understanding of God and faith before you start going through the entire Bible.

If you are struggling with anything specific, it can be helpful to search books or verses for that specific topic. I do that a lot and it is nice to read something specific to what I am having a hard time with.

How can I study the Bible?

Studying the Bible is not only very important, but it can actually be super fun. There are many ways that you can study the Bible, but I will share my favorites. If you want to read a bit more about how I study the Bible and about my new prayer journal, read this post.

My favorite way to study the Bible really helps me kind of customize what I am learning and reading. I will start by choosing a book of the Bible to read based off of what I need to hear. Then, I will choose 3 colored markers and make a code. I have inspiration, what I need to do, and important. I will go through about one page and highlight anything in those categories while maybe making some small notes on the side. After that I will read through the commentary on enduring word to get more info about what I am reading. I will always highlight some more and make more notes. To make it more fun I like to doodle on the side and make it colorful.

The other way that I study the Bible helps me learn more about each book individually and understand more. I do this by following along with a Bible study. I use The Bible Study from The Brand Sunday. There are lots of different Bible studies you can choose from but I really like this one. You read through one book in one week and then answer some questions and read about it.

How long should I study?

It is great to spend time with God on the daily! Try to make it a habit to study God’s word at least once everyday. Honestly, I don’t have a set time that I study for but I typically study one page at a time. This will probably take me around 30-45 minutes and it depends on the day. Just start studying God’s word and see how long you spend on it. Each day try to take longer and longer.

I really like to have at least one Bible study a day and then I will read the Bible at least once. It is a good idea to include it in your daily routine, like reading it before you go to bed. I also like to study when I am drinking my coffee or when I am soaking up some sun. Whenever you can fit it into you day is great!

I hope this helped you understand a bit more on how you can start to read the Bible! My next post is going to be answering your questions about faith, so if you have any leave them in the comments or message me on Instagram. Thank you for reading and have a great day 🙂
