Hey 🙂 Today I am going to be chatting about how you can find confidence in God. I know it can be so hard to be confident these days. So many things are criticized and overanalyzed including our bodies, makeup, wealth, career, opinions, clothes, love life, etc. So hopefully this helps some of you! Before I start, scroll all the way down and subscribe to my blog! Enjoy!
The key to finding your confidence in God is to first build a relationship with him. This means that our hearts and attention are solely focused on him (Matthew 5:8). God will totally fill us up with love and happiness but in order for that to happen, we have to give up our old ways (Isaiah 43:18-19). We can’t surrender to him part way but still be living a life of sin. Look at your life and figure out ways that you can surrender to him more. For me, this was not caring as much about what others thought of me and what I looked like.
Next, remember where you get your strength from. We have to rely on God, not ourselves (2 Corinthians 1:9). A lot of the time it is easy to use God as a last resort. When our life is going well it feels like we don’t even need him but once something goes wrong then we run to him. God needs to be who we run to for help and support, not a last resource (Isaiah 43:11). It is first important that we are confident in our faith and that we obey the Lord. Once we do that, he will provide us with strength and equip us with what we need (Luke 12:11-12).
Something that I have struggled with is body image. It can be easy to compare ourselves to others and start to lose any confidence that we had. It is important to remember that God didn’t create us all to be the same. We are precious to God, so why are we so focused on being loved and accepted by man? (Isaiah 43:4) Even though it sounds cliche, our heart is what is important. Besides, God created us personally and we are his masterpiece, who are we to tear it apart? (Ephesians 2:10) Our bodies are his temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
When we start to look less at ourselves and more at God we will find our confidence in him. God doesn’t want us to fear or worry (Isaiah 43:1). God doesn’t want us to focus on things that aren’t important (like money or clothes or even food), (Luke 12:15). God wants us to focus on him and trust that he will take care of us (Luke 12:29-30).
When you feel your confidence lacking or doubting yourself, make sure to remind yourself that you are feeding yourself with lies. Replace those lies with God’s truth (2 Corinthians 10:5). Satan tries to lead our thoughts away from God (2 Corinthians 11:3). But remember what really is important! It isn’t our appearance, it isn’t what we think of ourselves, it’s about what God thinks of us (2 Corinthians 10:18).
- Pray about it
- Listen to God, not yourself
- Speak kindly to yourself
- Try not to worry
- Put your confidence in God, not yourself
- Read your Bible
- Recognize the lies the enemy feeds you
- Focus solely on God
- Surrender to God
- Don’t compare yourself or life to others
Call to action – This week try to read your Bibles and pray a bit more! Also, I highly recommend reading 2 Corinthians, Luke and Isaiah if you struggle with confidence in God. Make sure that you feeding yourself God’s truth and positive words/thoughts.
Remember that God will never leave you and he loves you so much! Our confidence in him will grow as our relationship with him does.
