Hey guys 🙂 Today I am going to be sharing some things that we should be doing as Christians. I need to work on some of these as well, let me know which ones you need to work on! First, if you want to subscribe scroll all the way down and enter your email address. Enjoy!
God has provided us with so much to be thankful for but it can be easy to overlook everything and simply want more. It is important to acknowledge what God has already provided you with. An easy habit to get into is writing down three things you are thankful for everyday. Make sure that you remember all the amazing things God has done for you and others (Colossians 4:2). This will train your mind to see the positive and always be grateful for what you have.
Make an Effort
God tells us that if we draw near to him, he will draw near to us (James 4:8). Although God is a God of grace and forgiveness, we still have to make an effort to get closer to him. We cannot be lazy and expect him to listen to our prayers when we are constantly ignoring him. This also means that we actively rely on him and submit to him in every way (James 4:7). Give God your whole heart and seek to get closer to him in every way.
Notice how I didn’t say be loving, we need to be filled with love and kindness. What does this mean? This means we forgive, we aren’t hateful, we don’t talk bad about others, we encourage others, we don’t judge others, and our actions reflect love (James 2). I am really trying to get better at being more loving. Be kind to everyone and encourage others. Reach out to someone, do a random act of kindness, compliment someone, forgive someone you have been holding a grudge against. God doesn’t want us to be weighed down may hatred, so fill your heart with love like he wants us to!
Confess Your Sins
1 John 1:9 says, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In order to strengthen your relationship with God and receive his forgiveness we need to confess our sins to him. Personally, I like to write mine down in my prayer journal but you can also simply pray. God also calls us to confess our sins to others so that we can pray for each other (James 5:16). Recognize how you are sinning (we all are in some way) and speak to God about it.
Live For Only God
This one hit home for me guys. We can get so caught up in trying to impress our friends or a boy, or trying to please our families that we forget what is the most important, God! We can reflect on how we are truly living by asking ourselves a couple questions. How do you spend your time? What are you thinking about much of the time? Do you think God is pleased with what you are doing? There are so many ways to truly live for God, but you need to start by obeying him and leaving sin behind. Christians need to be proud of their faith and share God’s love and goodness with people (Mark 8:38). When we are truly living for God, we shouldn’t care what others think about us, we should be loving and focus on Him.
Study the Bible
It is obviously so important to know and study God’s word. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work,” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). There are so many other verses emphasizing the importance of reading God’s word. It is literally the key to strong faith and your relationship with God! If you don’t already, start to read and study your Bible. You can also start to memorize scripture if you already read the Bible. I personally love to journal in my Bible which makes it a bit more fun.
The devil is always looking for an opportunity to tempt us (Luke 4:13), but if we actively resist him, he will flee! (James 4:7) It can be hard to resist temptation, but when we do, we are rewarded and strengthened. As I said earlier, we have to rely on God, so rely on him for your strength through the temptation. Some things that help me are praying, reading the Word, talking with others, and listening to other Christians on YouTube.
Feed Your Faith
Just like we need to nourish our bodies with healthy food it is important that we feed our faith as well. What are you feeding yourself? It is time to analyze your life… what is not feeding your faith and maybe taking it away? John 15:1-5 talks about how we need to get rid of any branches that do not produce good fruit. Get rid of the things in your life that can cause or are sins and start to feed your faith! Instead of listening to music that is full of cuss words, listen to some worship music. Instead of watching a not so good show, listen to a sermon or watch a Christian movie. Make sure you are feeding your faith so that it can grow.
Align Your Actions
It is important that we realize how we are impacting others. If someone knows we are a Christian, but they constantly hear us cuss and gossip, they will believe all other Christians are like that. This is why we need to align our actions with who God wants us to be. Even if you read the Bible and donate money to your church, that doesn’t make you a Christian. You need to fully live the Word of God (James 1:22). It isn’t about what others think of you, it’s about how your words and actions can impact other in a positive and negative way. Think about how you are acting, dressing, speaking, and living.
And finally, the best for last, pray! Prayer is not only our communication with God, but it is a way we can deal with stress (Philippians 4:6). Speaking with God is very important in growing your faith. During prayer, confess your sins, talk about your anxieties, ask for help/anything else, be thankful and praise God. I am a big fan of writing down my prayers so that I take the time to reflect on them. It is also a great thing to pray multiple times through out the day, maybe when you are feeling worried or want to thank God. I recently wrote a post about how I pray if you are interested in learning a bit more.
Thank you all for reading 🙂 I hope you learned a bit through this post. Make sure to let me know what you need to work on in the comments! Also, leave me any topics that you would like me to write about. I hope you all have an amazing day and don’t forget to give all the glory to God!
